Opal
Opal: An Introduction
Capel-le-Ferne Primary School uses the Opal programme to support children to enjoy their lunch-times and to fully utilise the time children are spending outside so the rewards of a healthy, outdoor lunch-time are really enjoyed.
What is the Opal Programme?
OPAL is an award-winning, mentor supported school improvement programme that addresses all the areas that schools must plan for if they want to strategically and sustainably improve the quality of their play opportunities. OPAL is the only programme of its kind that has been independently proven to sustainably improve the quality of play in British primary schools.
Its success comes from a series of interrelated actions undertaken with specialist support from an OPAL mentor. This embeds play into the school’s policies and practices and establishes clear guiding principles and strategies for initiating lasting changes at playtimes.
Is Opal part of the curriculum?
We believe outdoor play is a crucial part of a child's development in a number of areas. This is why we consider it a curriculum entitlement for all our children.
How can this development be supported?
There are a number of ways that this important part of our school can be supported. Currently, we are looking for donations of the following:
- Children's wellington boots (for 4 years old to 11 years old)
- Children's all in one waterproofs (for 4 years old to 11 years old)
